What is  BioGeometric Integration? (Based upon the teachings and writings of B.J. Palmer, D.C. and Sue Brown, D.C.)

(Frequently, patients seeking our chiropractic services have only their own previous

experiences or shared opinions of friends and relatives, upon which to base their ideas

or concepts of what Chiropractic health care may be. Some folks have no notion as to

what services a chiropractor may provide. To achieve a better understanding of

Chiropractic and BioGeometric Integration, I offer this page as added insights.)

BGI is a low force, non-diagnostic, non-therapeutic Chiropractic care, which monitors each individual as a whole, rather than individual body parts. The practitioner will firstly search for “disconnects” , which are areas of the spine and extremities that are void of tone or which may hold areas of higher irritability. These regions are a result of a disconnection of the Mind from these areas and may result from injuries or surgery. They may be long-term or more acute and are an important first step in an adjustment/clear-out in helping the Body-Mind to recognize, reconnect, and reduce these energetic regions. The BGI practitioner next analyzes for correlating tones within pathways, tracks or bands of tension, starting on the back of the body (which we call Posterior Geometries). After adjusting the spinal regions, utilizing special, localized, gentle contacts, the areas of the front of the body  (Anterior Geometries) are analyzed for disconnects and correlating points within its tracks - the nervous system and body are assisted in becoming connected to these tracks of tensions. As each Member of our practice (we choose this reference rather than “patient”) develops greater strategies within his or her nervous system function, greater dynamic potential for change and Healing naturally are created. (For further information regarding BioGeometric Integration, you may enjoy reading the information included below.)

An  understanding  of BioGeometric Integration (BGI) might best start with an

understanding of Chiropractic- not with the "usual" picture or common public view of

chiropractors as  back doctors, but rather as an understanding of our profession

inclusive of the original intention of chiropractic, which is to release interference within

the body and its nervous system to a fuller expression of one's Innate Intelligence.

An organizing intelligence exists within each of us that coordinates such processes as

our heartbeat, breathing, digestion, and chemical balance, to name a few; each

functioning without necessity of conscious thought. This intelligence allows us to walk,

talk, think, and listen, without knowing the  complex interactions that must take place for

these activities to occur. The main control center for our body functions is housed within

the Central Nervous System, the brain, in particular. However, this intelligent entity

actually extends into the glandular (endocrine) system and the immune system

(including blood cells and other specialized cells found within the circulatory system).

Our body's life processes include billions of functions, all taking place at the same time

and extending into each body system, each tissue, and into microscopic levels of our

tissues' cells and their components. This is an awesome undertaking, which no

conscious thought process could ever achieve.

As a matter of fact, our bodies' actions and reactions to environmental stimuli (internal

and external) and all healing processes occur as a result of the expression of this highly

specialized inborn intelligence. The  reason we experience  dis-ease  in our lives –

whether expressed as a physical symptom, a chemical dependency, or an

emotional/mental pattern – is that there is interference somewhere within the brain,

spinal cord, or in the communication to/from the effector organs of the body in the

expression of this intelligence. This interference is what many in the chiropractic

profession call a "subluxation",  and the chiropractic adjustment is intended to assist the

body in reducing the subluxation, thus releasing the interference in the expression of the

Innate.

Chiropractors traditionally perceived the subluxation strictly in terms of bony spinal

segments compressing or stretching soft tissues (particularly the spinal cord and its

nerves) within the nervous system. These concepts are collectively a significant aspect

of BGI, yet it  not only recognizes this aspect but also expands its Big idea to further

encompass contemporary knowledge of our bodies and the world in which we live.

With the discovery of insights by master minds, such as Albert Einstein, Max Planck,

Max Born, Heinrich Hertz, and others into Quantum physics, came a new vision of our

world. We are now learning of a new existence that shifts away from things and “solid

reality” to one in which energy and matter become interchangeable.  This energy is

experienced as  vibrations, frequencies,  or tones. From newly acquired knowledge,

comes new discoveries that help to change the way many researchers view Life and the

body, creating many technological advancements. Scientists are now seeing the body

not only as a physical structure, but also as an energetic system, something ancient

healing arts have recognized for centuries.

In BioGeometric Integration, this view of the energetic quality of our existence  is

integrated into its Chiropractic concept of subluxation. The subluxation is not only

viewed in terms of a neurological component, but also as an energetic component.

In life, we are constantly exposed to and stimulated by limitless sources of  input;  this

input comes in many forms ranging from stimuli that routinely stimulate our five senses-

sight, taste, hearing, smell, and touch- to excessive overloads to our bodies and minds

in the form of physical injuries, chemical toxicities, and emotional and mental stresses.

As varied as all these experiences or stressors appear, the one constant for each of

them is that they are all energetic in nature. Our nervous system perceives the outer

world through its senses,  resonating the energy of each experience, interpreting it, and

changing it from frequencies and tones to words we understand, objects we recognize,

and compressive forces that we feel.

While taking a strong interest in studying the teachings of  masters of  health and the

BodyMind, I am developing an understanding that if experiences we have are

integrated, that is, the intelligence of the body recognizes and processes the information

contained in the experience, then we can utilize them to grow, learn, heal, and evolve.

However, if we do not integrate the experience and are unable to dissipate the energetic

stuckedness, then the body  continues to respond to these areas of energetic blockages

and compensate to these unhealed stresses, and  dis-ease  and discomfort are born.

Our senses perceive particular energies, with particular frequencies or tones; the tone of

the energy  determines the information carried by each experience. Information

processing systems of the body then interpret the tones and initiate appropriate

responses, and the energy of the experience is utilized within the body. This energy

utilization and tone interpretation suggests that there is an integration of this energy and

tone (information) into the system. To integrate is to make whole or unify by bringing

together parts. Therefore, when an experience is integrated, essentially what happens is

the tone of the energy becomes part of us.

Quantum physics has shown that we are but a multitude of synchronized/organized

frequencies- we are a musical symphony manifested into a physical form. When we

integrate an experience of life we’ve simply added another note to the music that we

are, increasing the complexity of our music ever so slightly. Our structure is determined

by our music, and if our inner music changes, our structure changes. By increasing the

complexity of our music by integrating a new tone (experience), we increase the

complexity of our structure. As Dr. Sue Brown reminds us in her teachings of BGI, this is

evolutionary. It is simply the integration by living systems of frequency upon frequency

over billions of years. Viewing the experiences of life in this way opens the door to see

every experience, no matter what it is, as an  opportunity to learn, grow, and evolve.

What if experiences (and their associated tones) don’t integrate? If a system can’t

integrate an experience and its energetic influence, then it is not utilized and integrated;

it is stored in the body. The BodyMind perceives it as a foreign, dissonant tone. It’s like

an experience of someone yelling and screaming at you, and you don’t know why. You

can’t integrate the experience because it is too big and beyond comprehension.

Therefore, long after this overload has passed, you keep playing it repeatedly, and the

more you think about it, the more uncomfortable you get. And years later, you see this

person, who verbally assaulted you, and you get agitated, nervous, and defensive.

These non-integrated tones create  dis-ease in the body and the dissonance of the tone

creates tensions and distorts the body’s natural geometric structure and alignment.

This is an excellent description of the "subluxation", a non-integrated energetic

experience that distorts the music (and geometry) and interferes with our Innate

expression, resulting in tight muscles, misaligned vertebrae, and tension on the system

of nerves.  Within principles of Quantum physics and Dr. Brown's BioGeometric

teachings, this blocked energy is stored energy, stored as "potential energy", which

gives us a "second chance". As previously written, the subluxation contains the

information of life's experience. If the body didn’t store the experience in the form of a

subluxation, then the possible learning contained in each experience would be lost. All

those overwhelming experiences would wreak havoc and then be lost forever with no

possibility to learn, grow, and evolve, and in storing the non-integrated experiences, the

body keeps the potential of every experience. In BGI, the chiropractic adjustment

releases that potential energy, giving the BodyMind system a second chance to

integrate the energy and information of the original experience, thus providing the

opportunity to grow, learn, evolve, and heal.

The BioGeometric Integration approach to chiropractic healthcare utilizes this

understanding of the subluxation, while other aspects also make BGI unique. One

concept is the idea of integration. We discussed integration previously in terms of the

creation of the subluxation and the evolution of living things. BGI's adjusting procedures

utilize this concept of integration to assess whether the nervous system is ready to

receive the adjustment and also whether the system fully integrates the adjustment

given. If the body is not ready to receive the information and potential that will be

released by the adjustment, or if the system is ready but does not fully integrate the

potential energy released, then it will simply lock back in, be stored again, and the

subluxation will return. BGI recognizes this concern and uses assessment tools that

allow the practitioner to determine if the system is ready to be adjusted, and if the

adjustment and thus potential energy will be fully integrated.

BGI  recognizes the importance of  determining the area in which the potential energy in

the body is being primarily stored. Essentially there are three categories of   stored

places—the muscles, the soft connective tissue (ligaments, tendons, and the tissue

around the organs called mesentery), and the hard connective tissue (bones).

An important feature of the BGI adjusting protocol is that it recognizes that there is an

innate geometry in the body, that this geometry is a reflection of the innate music that

we are. By identifying, understanding, and utilizing the geometry, the chiropractor can

better assess and release the subluxation. The geometry allows us to glimpse the entire

effect of the subluxation, thus making it possible to release it as an integrated whole. It

also allows us to prioritize the incredible number of subluxation patterns so that the

timing of each release is optimum.

Through BGI, we can understand both the physical and energetic aspects of the cause

of  dis-ease, realize the potential of each experience, and assess the most effective,

efficient, and integrative way to release the potential stored within each one of us.
